So what is all the fuss about with the Outdoor Writers in Town? The Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce Tourism Development Council (TDC) was host to outdoor writers and broadcasters, manufacturers of outdoor products, and professional fishing guides showcasing the Rockport-Fulton area for the 26th annual Spring Fling Outdoor Media event beginning this past Sunday, April 17 at the Fulton Convention Center.
The Spicy Spring Fling Seafood Extravaganza is an annual event celebrating all that Rockport and Fulton have to offer the people who love the outdoors. The committee offers this invitation only event to select media across the state. For starters, the outdoor sports writers relish in seafood appetizers before enjoying an evening filled with the latest in outdoor products brought in by top manufacturers of sporting items and fishing equipment. The following day is spent enjoying the Rockport-Fulton area bays and hospitality. Outdoor media love the delicious food and fantastic hospitality over the two days provided by this coastal community. In return, they will write and broadcast stories about our area.
Those media in attendance were Radio Personality Herman Brune, and writers from the Salt Water Texas Journal, Texas Outdoors Journal, Texas Parks & Wildlife, Texas Fish & Game, Brady-Standard News, San Marcos Daily Record, San Antonio Express News, Cuero Record, County Line Magazine, Laredo Morning Times, Fort Worth Star Telegram, Lone Star Outdoor News, Corpus Christi Caller Times, and various free lance writers.
This event would not be possible without sponsorship from manufacturing companies. Several of those companies are the The Fishinglights Company, ForEverlast, Luresafety Wrap, Yak-Gear Kayak accessories, Seaworthy Marine, Keen Footwear, Engel Coolers, Stanley Jigs, Toby Hogan Fishing Lures, Burris Company, Hi Mountain Seasonings, SeaLife Cameras, Fishin Pals, Corrosion X and Steiner.
Thirteen professional fishing guides who are members of the Chamber take time out of their busy schedules to help promote fishing in the Rockport-Fulton area and participate in the program. Without the support of the community, from all the hotels giving rooms to the restaurants offering discounts to the fishing guides giving their expertise and time, we would not be able to do this. It is a great show of community support for over 26 years.
We look forward to lots of stories and materials written on the Rockport-Fulton area. Within the next six months, the writer than submits a story his/her name will go into a drawing for a set of binoculars.
Congratulations to all the guides who put these writers onto fish! Special thanks to all the hoteliers who gave rooms for the writer, sponsors, etc. Thanks also to the Fishing guides who contributed their time and talents. Special thanks to Craig Griffin at Charlotte Plummers for putting together a fabulous breakfast and to Dot LeBlanc at the Boiling Pot for putting together a great evening meal. To all the sponsors who made this event possible, we truly express our appreciation to you!
Good luck to everyone on a great summer! Safe Travels!
