Three very important issues will be hammered out in the State Legislature. Now, whether those issues get taken care of without a special session is the question. The three issues causing grief in the legislature are voter identification (Voter ID), Texas Department of Insurance Sunset (TDI) and the Windstorm (TWIA).
Aftering discussing the issues with Senator Glenn Hegar's top aide on the Windstorm Issue, it is a guess that we are likely to go into Special Session to hash out the Windstorm TWIA Bill. The next bill in line to be discussed is Voter ID. Depending on how long, politically, it takes to get through this bill will depend on whether we have a special session right now. It is extremely political with just a few days remaining in this session.
The TWIA bill is getting better each time it is discussed but it can still use more items favorable to the Texas Coast.
It is likely a Special Session will begin June 1st, with the TDI bill and the TWIA bill as the center of attention. We will keep you posted at this site if we plan to make a trip to Austin. Believe me, if we can be effective... we will make a trip to Austin!
